The Downfall of Civilization

"I guess I was a combination of House of Pain and Bobby Brown - humpin' around and jumpin' around" - The Notorious B.I.G., Dead Wrong (featuring Eminem)

YouTube may, in fact, be the downfall of civilization. If TV is mindless entertainment then spending hours on your computer staring at 45 second clips of teens doing stupid shit in their bathrooms while also watching to see how long it takes for the youtube admins to remove the semi-regular stream of uploads of hardcore porn and then being extremely uncomfortable with the juxtaposition of the two situations: The girls and boys who are far too young to be showcasing their often sexualized roleplays (mimicking the hoochie mama video dances to their favorite songs or simulating sex for their friends and the camera) using the same tool as the grown voyeurs most interested in showcasing their actual sex acts. The two groups seeming to regularly comment to each other.

It's like a thousand tiny trainwrecks happening at once. I'm squicked out but it is hard to turn away once I'm there.

I thought the downfall of civilization was the new CW network.

i'm a little to frightened to even see what it's about for free of something infecting my computer..

thanks for explaining what YouTube is, but i think i'll take a pass. got too much simple-azz stuff going on as it is without adding this voyeurish look at kids dressed like lil' hoes doing the Snap dance or whatever. lol

i like utube, i don't look at the teen stuff, i go on to find unique things from various artist that i listen too.

i'm going to pass.
i see too much stupid shit on cspan that disturbs my sleeping patterns.
seeing these poor misguided teens just makes me glad i don't have kids.
ahhhh...bliss.

I got hooked on it this morning! Not so much by any random kid being an idiot, but, by K-Fed, being an idiot. Seeing George Bush being asked about Brokeback Mountain was kind of amusing, though.

I heart YouTube for the aforementioned K-Fed thing as well as being able to re-view Lazy Sunday before it was on iTunes.

I have to agree with you, but I think the downfall of civilization is Cam'ron and Young Jeezy..lol

Holy snap! I must be utilizing YouTube the wrong way (or maybe the right way?) because I haven't seen any teen porn on there.

Granted, there are probably some questionable teen activity on there. But I also have to say, that I only watch YouTube for the old school hip-hop videos, so I haven't dug too deep into the archives of YouTube. Or for that matter survey the site thoroughly.

I don't know if its the downfall of civilization, but certainly the new trend in video watching since the release of the video iPod. Video blogging seems to be on the rise, as well. People talking into the camera and then posting it on their blogs. No more writing boring entries in a blog, just flash your tits and watch the hits.

Unfortunately, some of the ugliest people are doing video blogs.

But that's a whole another post in itself.

I also have seen the rise of what I think are called "Flickrblogs" where people post pictures from other people's Flickr websites onto their blogs.

Now maybe all of that is the downfall of civilization?

P.S.: I love Ann's comment. The CW network looks like a bad experiment in theory. But hopefully, it would get more people to watch Everybody Hates Chris -- THE finest dramedy on network television. (Although My Name Is Earl is damn good, too.)

The downfall of civilization began somewhere between the popularity of Jerry Springer and the proliferation of reality TV shows. I feel that YouTube is just a natural progression in our race to set ourselves back to being Cro-Mags. My major problem with YouTube, however, is how many FIGHT videos you can find on there. People are pulling each other’s teeth and hair out and you can see others standing around FILMING some girl banging another girl’s head into the concrete. They won’t jump in to actually try to STOP the fight-they’ve got to record it with their cell phones so they can post it on YouTube!
Suffice it to say, there’s nothing civil about civilization.
